JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Campbell dropped its first game of the Osprey Thanksgiving Classic, falling 71-49 to North Dakota State, Friday afternoon at UNF Arena.
Â
Three-point shooting was a big difference in today's contest. NDSU (4-2) made nine three-point shots, the most allowed by the Camels this season. CU (4-4) struggled, going 0-of-7 for its first game this season without a make from distance.
Â
The Bison held a 20-18 lead after the first quarter, with Marisa Frost scoring a game-high nine points.
Gianni Boone was equal to the task, scoring eight points off the bench to lead the Camels. 16 of Campbell's 18 points came in the paint.
Â
NDSU reversed Campbell's trend of strong second quarters, outscoring the Camels 17-7 to take a 37-25 lead into halftime. Abby Krzewinski hit two three-pointers in the span of three Bison possessions to put NDSU up by 10 for the first time in the game at the 1:50 mark. She hit three long balls in total in the frame, taking a season-high 13 points into the locker room.
Â
In contrast, the Camels only made one shot from the field and went 5-of-6 at the free throw line, with
Ciara Alexander scoring five of the team's seven points. The team shot 1-of-11 from the field with six turnovers, struggling to create opportunities against the Bison defense.
Â
The Bison scored 11 points off of those six Campbell turnovers, moving that total to 16 in the first half. NDSU also led at the free throw line before halftime, going 9-of-10 compared to 5-of-6 for Campbell.
Â
NDSU built its lead to 15 at the under-5:00 media timeout in the third quarter, 45-30. Campbell followed with its best scoring run of the game, an 8-0 spurt fueled by
N'na Konate to cut the lead back to 10 with 1:43 to play before the fourth quarter.
Â
NDSU opened the fourth with a 9-5 scoring run to build back its lead, capped by a three-pointer from Marisa Frost to put the Bison up 17. Frost ended the game with a game-high 21 points, her most of the season.
Â
After missing the first seven games of the season,
Jessica Woods made her season debut in the fourth quarter.
Â
Boone and Konate led the Camels with 10 points each, and Alexander recorded seven rebounds.
