BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell scored its most points since 2023 in a 100-43 win over Carolina University during Education Day Tuesday afternoon.
Â
The Camels (6-5) improved to 14-1 in Education Day games, led by
Hadleigh Dill's 13 points and
Ciara Alexander's 12 points and eight rebounds.
Â
Over 2,700 elementary students and teachers from across central North Carolina were in attendance, lifting Gore Arena to a sellout crowd for just the second time for a women's basketball game and the first in 15 years.
Â
CU opened the game with a 10-0 run in the first 1:30 thanks to a quick four points from
Jasmine Felton. The Bruins kept it close through the rest of the frame and trailed by single digits, 27-19, thanks to eight first-quarter points from Mya Smith.
Â
Campbell's defense picked up the pressure in the second quarter and allowed just four points to the Bruins, all scored by Ja'Nisha Caldwell. This marks the fourth opponent this season the Camels held to under five points in a quarter, and each occurrence was in the second quarter.
Â
The offense for Campbell matched its defense, opening the frame on a 9-0 run. The team shot 56% and scored 24 points to create a 51-23 advantage at halftime.
Â
Nine different Camels scored during the frame, led by
Jasmine Nivar's five points and three assists. The output is the first time the Camels have scored 50 in a half since their 2023 matchup against NC Wesleyan.
Â
The Camels continued to build their lead after the break, outscoring the Bruins 24-10 in the third. Alexander had five points in the frame, and
Peris Smith contributed four points and four rebounds, as she set career-highs in points (10) and rebounds (6).
Â
A three-pointer from Dill at the 8:56 mark of the fourth quarter put the Camels up 50, 83-33.
Jessica Woods's layup with 37 seconds remaining put a century on the board for CU for the first time since a 108-37 win over NC Wesleyan on Nov. 6, 2023.
Â
The Camels committed only four fouls, a new record low for the program. Six players scored double-figures, and all 12 players who saw the court had at least four points and played at least 12 minutes.
