Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Camels beat Ball State

BUIES CREEK – Campbell remained unbeaten at home with a 69-64 win over Ball State Sunday afternoon in Buies Creek. Tied at the half, Campbell found the edge in the second half thanks to a couple late buckets to topple the Cardinals.

The win moves Campbell to 5-5 on the season, and 4-0 inside Gore Arena.

Campbell got double-double efforts from the front court duo of Dovydas Butka (22 & 10) and Chris Fields Jr. (14 & 14) as the Camels outrebounded the Cardinals by seven on the day. Both players now have three double-doubles this season.

A slow-moving first half left the sides tied at 30-30. Fields had a big first half, nearly earning his double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds at the break.

The second half was a back-and-forth affair that saw nine ties and eight lead changes. DJ Smith gave Campbell the lead for good with a three-pointer with 1:41 to play, putting the Camels up one. Tasos Cook followed with a tough turnaround jumper a minute later to put Campbell up three and effectively seal the game, as Smith then went 4-4 at the stripe down the stretch.

Smith scored 17 of his 20 points after halftime, connecting on a pair of threes and going 7-7 at the foul line. Butka was at his best late as well, posting 13 points and eight rebounds in the second half.

Butka led all scorers with 22, while Smith added 20 and Fields tallied 14. Cam Gregory had a nine all-around performance with five points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Campbell now faces a major road trip, visiting Gonzaga this Wednesday and Minnesota on Sunday.
