Camels drop road game at East Carolina

GREENVILLE N.C. – Campbell dropped its final non-conference game of the season, falling to East Carolina, 81-59, Sunday afternoon at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

ECU (8-5) shot 49% from the field, the highest allowed by Campbell (7-6) this season. The Pirates had five players in double-figures, led by Anzhane Hutton's 22. The Pirates also had big advantages in points off turnovers (23-7) and bench points (38-12).

Jasmine Nivar and Jasmine Felton led the Camels with 12 points apiece, and Gianni Boone added 11 points and seven rebounds. Olivia Tucker joined her teammates with double figures as well.

The Pirates came out hot to start the game, making their first four shots for a 9-2 lead. The Camels used an 8-0 run later in the quarter to take the lead, 16-15, after a make by ECU was later ruled to have happened after the shot clock. The Pirates used a 7-0 run of their own to end the first to take a 22-17 lead.

A layup from Mildred Dibua at the 5:30 mark of the second quarter capped a 6-0 for ECU and gave the Pirates their first double-digit lead, 30-20. Campbell scored six points in the final minute of the half to cut the lead back down to five until ECU made two free throws with less than a second left to take a 38-31 lead into the break.

Nivar led the Camels with 10 points at the break, and Tucker had nine points. The Camels shot 4-of-7 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes.

After Tucker made the first shot of the second half, ECU opened the game up with a 10-0 run as their lead ballooned to 15, 48-33, at the six-minute mark of the third.

ECU continued to apply the pressure through the end of the third quarter, outscoring the Camels 21-9 in the frame.

The trend continued through the fourth, as the Pirates outscored the Camels by three in the final frame.

East Carolina took advantage of its opportunities at the free throw line, going 20-23 at the charity stripe.
