TOWSON, Md. – The Fighting Camels dropped their CAA opener on Friday afternoon, falling to Towson, 57-54, at SECU Arena.

India Johnston was the leading scorer in the contest, pacing the Tigers (8-5, 1-0) with 19 points. Thalia Shepard was the other TU player in double figures contributing 10 points, including four free throws in the final 20 seconds.

Jasmine Felton recorded her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while
Jasmine Nivar led the Camels (7-7, 0-1) with 16 points. Â

Each team struggled from the field in the first quarter, leading to a 12-10 score after the first frame. The Camels shot 35 percent, just slightly better than Towson's 30 percent. Both teams were 0-for-3 from beyond the arc.

India Johnston opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run of her own to pull the Tigers ahead, 19-14, at the 8:21 mark of the second frame. The CAA's third-leading scorer powered the Towson attack, scoring 13 points in the frame.

After trailing by as many as nine, the Camels fought back and made it a four-point game at halftime thanks to a three-pointer from
Ashleigh Battle with four seconds remaining.

TU shot 7-of-13 from the field in the second quarter, raising its first-half field goal percentage to 42.3. Campbell shot 32.3 percent, but outrebounded the Tigers by 12, 25-13.

The two teams exchanged baskets for the first half of the third quarter, with the Tigers holding a slight 37-34 lead at the under-five media timeout. Both teams were cold after the timeout, combining to shoot 3-of-20 to end the period.

Nivar scored Campbell's first four points of the fourth quarter to cut into the Towson lead. A layup from Felton followed by another Nivar layup gave Campbell its first lead of the second half, 43-42 with 6:39 to play.

A jumper from Zoli Khalil on the ensuing possession gave Towson the lead again, 44-43, which they would not relinquish.

With a narrow lead late, the Tigers went 7-of-8 at the free throw line to close out the win. Thalia Shepard made four of the seven, in addition to Semaya Turner and Viki Matulevicius. Towson ended the game with a +7 advantage at the charity stripe.

Felton made a half-court buzzer-beater to make the final deficit three points. The Camels tied their season-high with eight blocks.
