Fields logs triple-double, Camels win in record fashion

BUIES CREEK – Program records fell left and right in Campbell's 149-62 win over Virgina Lynchburg Sunday afternoon. Chris Fields Jr. led the way with the first triple-double in program history with 23 points, 22 rebounds and 11 assists.

Campbell's 149 points were good for a program record, as was the 87-point margin of victory.

Fields was one of three players with double-doubles as Muneer Newton finished with 28 points and 11 boards, and Dominykas Butka logged 14 and 11. Fields' 22 rebounds were good for a program record.

Campbell dominated the glass and hauled in a program-record 70 rebounds, outrebounding the Dragons 70-16. The interior work led Campbell to 94 points in the paint and 37 second chance points on the evening.

The Camels also dished out a program-record 41 assists to shatter the previous mark. Fields was joined by Cam Gregory with double-figure assists, each with 11. Campbell assisted on 41 of its record 63 made FGs.

Muneer Newton shot 14-15 (.933) from the floor, a program record for field goal percentage with at least 15 attempts.

While much of Campbell's work came on the interior, the guards were hot from distance and shot 16-34 from downtown, the most threes in a game since 2020. DJ Smith and Broc Bidwell connected for five triples apiece, with Bidwell on his way to a career-high 19 points.

Campbell led 75-21 at the half to set the single-half scoring record, and nearly matched that with 74 in the second half, to set the second-half scoring record.

Eight Camels saw the court and seven finished in double figures led by Newton's 28. Gregory, the only one without 10+ points, logged 11 assists.
