Camels beat NC A&T, win seventh straight

BUIES CREEK - The Fighting Camels gutted out a 66-62 win over NC A&T Monday night at home and in front of a national TV audience. The Camels trailed by five at the half, but shot 71% from the floor in the second half to earn their seventh straight win.

The win moves Campbell to 14-11, 9-3 in the CAA and into a tie for third in the conference. NC A&T falls to 4-21, 0-12 in league play.

Colby Duggan led the way with a game-high 26 points on 11-17 from the floor. Tasos Cook picked up his first start of the season and provided 13 points and handed out four assists.

The Camels struggled to find the basket in the opening 20 minutes, shooting only 33% from the floor including 1-13 (7%) from beyond the arc. The Aggies connected on only one first-half triple as well, but carried a 26-21 lead to the break.

Campbell responded with a stop and score coming out of the half, and maintained the high intensity throughout the half. Duggan led the charge with 18 points on a perfect 7-7 from the floor in the second half and added three assists. Cook was steady at the foul line down the stretch and hit seven of Campbell's 11 free throws on the night, none bigger than icing the game by hitting both to give CU a four-point lead with less than a second remaining, giving Campbell the 66-62 win.

Campbell's seven straight conference regular season wins ties a program record set during the 2020-21 season.

Only six players took the court for NC A&T tonight. Jahnathan Lamothe led the way with 20 points and 17 rebounds, playing all 40 minutes. Nikolaos Chitikoudis added 17 and Bryson Ogletree scored 15 for the Aggies.

Gore Arena hosted a crowd of 2,232, the largest of the post-covid era.

The Camels now head north to face Northeastern Thursday night at 7 p.m. That game will be streamed on FloCollege.
