Camels win shootout at Delaware

NEWARK, DEL. - The Fighting Camels shot lights out in the second half to win a shootout against Delaware, 96-91, Saturday afternoon. Campbell shot 74% in the second half and scored 58 points after halftime, its most in any half this season.

The win moves Campbell to 15-12, 10-4 in the league. Delaware falls to 12-15, 5-9 in the CAA.

Colby Duggan poured in a career-high 33 points on 12-18 shooting, giving him his second 30-point game of the season. Duggan was a perfect 4-4 from distance and nearly perfect at 5-6 from the line.

It was Delaware that was on fire in the first 20 minutes, shooting 9-14 from three and 70% from the floor. Cavan Reilly led that effort at 4-6 from three and 16 points, while Colby Duggan led the way for Campbell with 10 points. Despite Delaware's hot shooting the Blue Hens only led by single digits at the break, 46-38.

It was the Campbell offense that caught fire in the second half, as Campbell shot 74% in the floor in the second. Most of that came at or near the rim, as CU was just 2-3 from three-point range, and 18-24 inside the arc. Duggan was a man on a mission with 23 points after halftime, including 11 in a row during a stretch that gave Campbell the lead for good with 11 minutes to play.

While Delaware still shot 61% in the second half, Campbell forced the Blue Hens into eight of its 10 turnovers after halftime as Campbell came up with 12 points off turnovers.

Eric Van Der Heijden provided a lift with back-to-back dunks off the dribble drive to add to the momentum as Campbell pushed its lead to as many as 10 with 4:17 to go. Both teams kept trading buckets late as Campbell held on for the 96-91 win.

Campbell's 96 points are its fourth-most ever on the road against a D1 opponent, and ties the record against a league opponent on the road, and the most since 1993. The 74% shooting mark in the second half is the 10th best shooting half in program history, and second-best ever on the road.

Campbell made the most of its trips to the line all day, but especially in the second half going 22-24 on the day and 16-17 in the second half. The charity stripe proved to be the difference, as Campbell made 16 more free throws than the Blue Hens to offset Delaware shooting 66% from the floor on the night.

In addition to Duggan's 33, Tasos Cook scored a career-high 19 to go with four rebounds and one assist, steal, and block each. Cook did so on 8-9 shooting. Nolan Dorsey added 13 and Caleb Zurliene came off the bench for 12.

Campbell now awaits the short road trip to NC A&T on Thursday night. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloCollege.
