BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Cara McCormack led all scorers with 23 points to lead Drexel past Campbell 60-54, Friday night at Gore Arena.
Campbell (15-10, 8-5) saw both its five game winning streak and its undefeated 10-0 record at home snapped to a Drexel (14-9, 10-3) team that has won eight of its last nine games.Â
The Dragons jumped out to a 12 point lead in the first quarter and led the rest of the way. Campbell trailed 30-26 after a first half in which Gemma Nunez dished out seven of her eight total assists.
Drexel used an 11-2 to open the second half, pushing its lead to its largest of the day at 16 on a three by McCormack 2:55 left in the third quarter.Â
Campbell managed to cut the deficit to as few as four with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter but never got any closer as Drexel made all four of its free throw attempts down the stretch.Â
McCormack made her first seven shots from the field, finishing 7-of-9 overall, 5-of-6 from three and all four of her free throws. She also added five assists, two rebounds and a steal. Deja Evans finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, Amaris Baker had 13 points while Chloe Hodges finished with seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Dragons.
Olivia Tucker led the Camels with 11 points while Ciara Alexander added 10 points and seven boards. Dahlquist added nine points while Nunez finished with eight points, eight assists, five rebounds and a career-high six steals.Â
Drexel shot 47.8 percent (22-of-46) overall, made 50.0 percent (8-of-16) threes and converted 8-of-10 free throws. Campbell shot 32.8 percent (20-of-61) from the field, made 3-of-16 threes and went 11-of-18 on free throws.
The Camels scored 17 points off 20 turnovers and outscored the Dragons 32-26 in the paint, 8-3 on breaks and 26-0 on bench points.
Campbell returns to action on Sunday back at Gore Arena against Stony Brook at 2 PM.Â
