Campbell completes fourth quarter comeback at Towson

Campbell erases 13-point deficit with 6:13 left to win

TOWSON, MD. - Campbell erased a 13-point deficit with 6:13 left to defeat Towson 58-57 Friday night at TU Arena. Olivia Tucker led all scorers with 16 points and drilled the eventual game-winning three to cap a 14-1 run to close out the game. 

Campbell (17-10, 10-5) forced seven turnovers and held Towson (9-18, 7-9) without a field goal over the final 4:58, scoring 11 unanswered points during that span.

Gianni Boone started the comeback run for the Camels after scoring and drawing a foul for a three-point play. Audrey Fuller hit a deep three to trim the deficit to single-digits while Tucker stole the ball on the next possession which ultimately led to a layup from Jasmine Felton.

Campbell forced a five second call on the Tigers' next inbound possession leading to a three from Felton to make it an one-possession game at 56-53. The Camels forced another turnover as Felton tipped a pass and threw it ahead to Tucker who drove in and scored. 

Towson's Anasia Staton drew a shooting foul but only made 1-of-2 free throws as Tucker connected on a three to put Campbell in front with 1:40 left.

The Tigers had an opportunity to take the lead with 2.4 seconds left and inbounding the ball from their own baseline until Gemma Nunez stripped the ball on an attempted lob as time expired.

Tucker, who made 6-of-10 shots from the field and connected on 3-of-5 threes, scored 10 of her 16 points in the second half and added a career-high five steals. 

Boone added 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting along with five boards whileFelton finished with seven points, eight rebounds and four steals. Nunez recorded six points, six rebounds and a game-high eight assists.

Khady Leye recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards while Kayla Morris added 12 points, seven boards and three blocks for the Tigers.

Campbell scored 16 points off 21 turnovers, including scoring seven points off eight turnovers in the fourth quarter. Boone, Felton and Tucker all scored five points while Fuller added four in the final period. 

Towson held a 26-24 edge in points in the paint and held a 37-33 advantage on the boards. The Tigers shot 44.2 percent (23-of-52) overall, including 52.0 percent (13-of-25) in the second half, and made 5-of-14 threes and 6-of-10 on free throws. The Camels finished shooting 38.7 percent (24-of-62) overall and made 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from three.

It marks the second-time the Camels have completed a double-digit fourth quarter comeback this season after erasing a 13-point deficit to start the fourth quarter in a 71-67 overtime win over Purdue Fort Wayne on Nov. 27.

Winners of seven of its last eight, Campbell wraps up its final road trip of the regular season on Sunday at Drexel.
