Camels fall in season finale at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Campbell dropped the 2024-25 regular season finale 87-65 to Charleston Saturday night in TD Arena.

Campbell finishes the regular season 15-16, 10-8. Charleston finishes 23-8, 13-5.

The loss, combined with other results around the league today, leaves Campbell as the #5 seed in next week's CAA Championship. The Camels are slated to play Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of the #12 vs #13 seed game.

The Cougars came out of the gates hot thanks to 16 points on 4-6 3FG from Derren Boyd in the first half. Meanwhile, Campbell shot only 35% and 2-10 from downtown, leaving the Camels trailing 41-26 at the half. Colby Duggan led the Camels with eight first half points.

Boyd, along with the rest of the Cougars, continued the onslaught from three in the second half, as Boyd hit three more and the Cougars hit seven more in the second. Campbell picked up its shooting in a big way, hitting eight threes of its own in the second half, but couldn't come up with enough buckets elsewhere to keep pace. The Cougars led by as many as 30 in the second half to wrap up the 87-65 win.

Duggan finished with a team-high 19 points and hit three threes. Cam Gregory finished with 12 points while Dorsey and Walsh each added 11. Dorsey also hauled in eight rebounds and came up with three steals. Gregory also dished out a career-high seven assists.

Boyd led all scorers with 25, while AJ Smith added 20. Ante Brzovic finished with 14 and Deywwilk Tavarez had 10. CJ Fulton, one of the nation's leading passers, tallied 10 assists on the night.

Duggan ends the year averaging 19.8 points per game in league play, the most in the conference.

Campbell now heads to Washington D.C. for this weekend's Championship. The Camels play Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The first game will be broadcast on FloCollege.
