UNCW takes series finale behind Bagwell’s performance on the mound

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Cam Bagwell did not allow a hit or a baserunner, as the Seahawks defeated Campbell in seven innings, 12-0, Sunday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.

Bagwell (4-0) pitched the second perfect game and 10th no-hitter in program history for UNCW. He needed just 80 pitches to complete the seven-inning game, striking out three Campbell batters.

Campbell now sits at 10-13 and 2-1 in Coastal Athletic Association play, and the Seahawks improved to 12-12 (1-2).

The Seahawks sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four runs in the top of the first inning, all credited to Campbell starter David Rossow (2-3). Trevor Lucas and Alec DeMartino provided RBI hits. Lucas scored on a wild pitch, and Brady Thompson worked a bases-loaded walk for the final score in the frame.

Peyton Brown replaced Rossow with two outs in the first inning. He went the longest out of the bullpen, going 3.1 innings with three strikeouts, five hits and three runs.

The Seahawks did not score again until the fourth inning, when DeMartino, Bromley Thornton and Cole Nelson combined for back-to-back-to-back RBI singles with two outs.

Drew Siegner relieved Brown to start the fifth inning. He went 1.2 innings and allowed the final five runs for UNCW, three of which scored on a Lucas home run in the fifth inning.

An RBI double from Thompson in the sixth provided the final two runs for the Seahawks.

Zac Martin pitched 0.2 innings out of the pen, and Nick Biasi made his Campbell debut and recorded the final two outs of the game, a lineout and a strikeout.
