Camels use long ball to defeat Stony Brook in seven innings

Box Score STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Camels got their bats going to the tune of seven home runs to defeat Stony Brook 16-6 in seven innings Sunday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.
 
Six different players in the lineup had a home run for Campbell (15-20, 6-6 CAA) to earn one win in the weekend clash against the Seawolves (17-16, 5-7).
 
Jett Music had two home runs on the day, both solo shots in the second and sixth innings. Besides Music, Darnell Parker Jr., Andrew Schuldt, Charlie Meglio, Joey Morton and Lukas Schramm each had a home run.
 
Starting on the mound for Campbell was Jake Murray, and he earned the win to move him to 3-2 on the year. John Rizzo started for Stony Brook, and his record is also 3-2 after being credited with the loss.
 
Stony Brook got on the board first with a two-run shot in the first inning off the bat of Erik Paulsen.
 
Campbell immediately took the lead in the top of the second and did not look back the rest of the day. Music's first home run of the day came with one out, then Andrew Keller reached on an error with two outs to extend the inning.
 
Joe Simpson singled to left field, then Parker Jr. knocked his three-run homer over the backside wall in right to put the Camels up, 4-2.
 
Murray kept the Seawolves off the board in the third and fourth innings to help Campbell extend their lead. Schuldt's two-run home run came in the third, also over the backside wall. Meglio followed that with a three-run shot in the fourth to put Campbell up, 9-2 in the middle of the frame.
 
Rizzo pitched 3.0+ innings for SBU before he was replaced by Matthew Canizares. Nicholas Rizzo and Vincent Mariella also made appearances for the Seawolves.
 
Stony Brook added two runs in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Matt Miceli and an RBI single from Nick Zampieron.
 
CU built on its lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. Morton led off the inning with a solo home run. Music walked to get on base for a two-run home run by Schramm.
 
Simpson doubled to left field, then stole third when the pitcher attempted to pick him off at second. Dalen Thompson was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners with two outs. Thompson stole second, and Simpson was able to advance home on the throw.
 
SBU added their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nico Azpilcueta led off the frame with a solo home run, then later in the inning Chris Carson knocked an RBI single up the middle.
 
Murray's day was done after 4.1 innings. He allowed six hits and four earned runs, but he recorded five strikeouts to give him 60 on the year. Zach Sabers entered out of the bullpen in replace of Murray and allowed the Carson RBI, but he was able to get out of the inning. Sabers also pitched the sixth inning, retiring the side in order.
 
Music's second home run of the day came in the sixth inning, and that was the only run scored in the frame. Campbell's final two runs in the seventh came on a two-RBI double from Thompson that went all the way to the left-field corner. Pinch runner Davis Albert scored from second base, and Parker Jr. came all the way around from first.
 
Bryce Schares pitched the final frame for the Fighting Camels. He retired the side in order with one strikeout.
