Camels clinch series win with 6-1 victory over Blue Hens

NEWARK, Del. – The Fighting Camels won their fourth game in a row and clinched the series with a 6-1 win over Delaware late Friday night at Bob Hannah Stadium.

Campbell (24-28, 15-11 CAA) has won four series in a row against conference competition and is in lockstep with College of Charleston in the race for the No. 3 seed in the CAA Championships.

Delaware (27-25, 11-15 CAA) is eliminated from postseason contention, and Elon and William & Mary have clinched the final two spots in next week's conference tournament.

Joe Simpson began the game with a leadoff homer for the second straight day, giving the Camels an early advantage.

Campbell then scored two runs in the third inning on an RBI single by Andrew Schuldt and a bases-loaded walk by Jackson Thompson.

David Rossow started on the mound for Campbell, and he went 5.0 innings with one hit, one walk and seven strikeouts in the winning effort. He moves to 6-3 on the year.

Jake Pollaro started for the Blue Hens, and his record is 2-1 after being credited with the loss. He went 1.2 innings, going through the lineup one time before being replaced by Justin Needles. Ben Moyzan, Dylan Bryan and Dom Velasquez all saw action out of the bullpen for the home team.

Dalen Thompson added another two runs in the fourth with an inside the park home run, scoring Darnell Parker Jr. On the fly, the ball lodged between the turf and the bottom of the wall in deep center field. The defenders tried to call time before ultimately pulling the ball free, giving Thompson the time he needed to round the bases. It is the first inside the park home run since Bryce Arnold achieved it against UNCW on May 20, 2023.

Schuldt provided one more run in the frame with an RBI double to deep left center field, his second hit and RBI of the night.

Evans Hendricks replaced Rossow on the mound in the sixth, and he was subsequently replaced by Peyton Brown in the seventh. Brown finished the game, pitching the final three innings for his second save of the season.

Aaron Graeber hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning for Delaware's only run of the game. Campbell's pitching staff held them in check throughout the game, allowing only five hits and stranding eight runners while issuing just two walks and eight strikeouts.
