Guzman named honorable mention preseason All-CAA

Camels picked 10th in CAA preseason poll

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Cornerback Brandon Guzman has been named honorable mention preseason All-CAA, while Campbell has been voted 10th in the league's preseason coaches' poll.

In his first season as a Camel in 2024, Guzman recorded 34 tackles with two interceptions, two pass breakups and a forced fumble in 11 games at cornerback. The CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member posted interceptions in back-to-back weeks, against Richmond and then at Delaware, also breaking up a pair of passes against Richmond, making three tackles, and forced a fumble with three tackles at William & Mary.

Rhode Island, which shared the CAA Football title last season, topped the poll with eight first place votes and 163 total points, followed by Monmouth with four first place tallies and 142 points. Villanova also collected two first place votes with 139 points.

Stony Brook (125 points) finished fourth in the voting and was followed by New Hampshire (119 points), Towson (108 points), William & Mary (104 points) and Elon (98 points). Rounding out the poll were Maine (71 points), Campbell (53 points), Hampton (50 points), UAlbany (47 points), Bryant (32 points) and North Carolina A&T (23 points).

Monmouth graduate quarterback Derek Robertson was selected as the CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Rhode Island senior linebacker A.J. Pena was chosen as the CAA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Campbell will kick off the 2025 season, its second under the direction of head coach Braxton Harris, at CAA foe Rhode Island on Friday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m. The Camels will host their home opener on September 13, hosting Furman at Barker-Lane Stadium at 3:30 p.m., the first of three-straight home dates, which will include the team's CAA home opener against Bryant (6:00 p.m.) and then Western Carolina (3:30 p.m.).

CU's 2025 Homecoming matchup with New Hampshire will feature a 3:30 p.m. kickoff, with 2:00 p.m. kicks for the Camels' final two home dates against William & Mary and Elon.

The Camels took on the 10th toughest schedule in the FCS in 2024, which featured a historic 24-16 win at No. 17 Western Carolina, the program's first ever win over a ranked opponent.

Following the season, three Camels were named to All-CAA teams, while rookie wideout Randall King was named a Phil Steele Freshman All-American.
