Campbell draws against Queens, 0-0, in season opener

Camels are back in action on Sunday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Campbell women's soccer team (0-0-1) played Queens (0-0-1) to a 0-0 draw to open the regular season on Thursday night at Queens Sports Complex.

The Fighting Camels got out to a quick start on the pitch with seven shots in the first half while the backline held Queens to just two shots. Campbell's first shot on goal came in the 12th minute as Abygaelle Normand shot from well outside the box and the Queens goalkeeper recorded her first save of the night.

The second half saw much of the same as the Camels continued to apply pressure within the final 20 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net. The squad tallied six shots and four corners in the final 45 minutes.

Anais van Doesburg made the start in goal holding steady for the Camels which included a crucial save to end the first half and one again late in the game. The goalkeeper finished with five saves on the night.

Campbell held a 13-5 edge in shots on the night and registered seven corner kicks. The Royals were whistled for five fouls compared to the Camels four fouls.

Gillian Garrison recorded three shots, with one on goal, as eight Camels recorded shots.

Quotable from head coach Jeff Gross
"This is a willing and growing group rapidly getting better every day. They love the mane and they are willing to compete at a high level. We had several different players contribute to goal scoring chances that came from all spots on the field. That is a positive sign. Our opponents are good and you always have to be ready for the next one because it will be a good match. Looking forward. Roll Humps!"
