BUIES CREEK – Sophomore
Abby Connolly lifted Campbell women's soccer (1-0-1) over North Florida (1-1), 1-0, in the home opener at Eakes Athletics Complex on Sunday night.
In the 39
th minute of the contest, Connolly broke free at the top of the box to put the ball in the back of the net to give the Camels a 1-0 lead, as its all it would need to secure the victory. The goal would mark the first of the season for the Camels.
The Ospreys had momentum early in the contest taking three shots within the first five minutes of the game but came up empty. Campbell ended up outshooting North Florida at the end of the match 15-9 but both recorded 6 shots before the break.
The second half Campbell applied offensive pressure with nine shots and four corner kicks but were unsuccessful in extended its lead.
Anais van Doesburg recorded her second consecutive shutout of the season and added a save. Connolly led the Camels with four shot and
Tyler Baughan tallied three.
