BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Davidson Wildcats scored in each half to come away with a 2-0 victory over the Fighting Camels Thursday night at Eakes Athletics Complex in the season opener.

Alonzo Clarke, who had one goal previously in his career, scored the game-winner for the Wildcats (1-0) in the 40
th minute with a header off a free kick sent into the box by Baylen Young.

Campbell (0-1) had the first big chance of the game in the 4
th minute.
Sam Roberson got behind the defensive line on a chip from
Ethan Roberts, but his left-footed poke while fighting off a defender went just wide of the net.

Davidson added their second goal of the evening in the 57
th minute. Young and Jake Brown combined on a run down the right flank and sent the ball to the back post, where Noah Louzan rose up on a free header and sent it past the keeper.

Campbell created another chance in the 66
th minute, as
Jake Roberts was fouled in the box by Ayman Maadir on a free kick to draw a penalty. E. Roberts took the penalty and sent it to the bottom left corner of the goal, where a diving Lucas Beltran made the save to preserve the two-goal advantage.

E. Roberts put one more shot on goal in the 83
rd minute, but the Camels were unable to find their opening goal of the season.

Davidson was shown three yellow cards on the night against Campbell's two. The Camels were called offsides six times, and the Wildcats held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
