Campbell defeats Winthrop 2-0, earns first win of season

ROCK HILL, S.C. – A pair of first-half goals from Ethan Roberts and Kairi Saito carried Campbell to a 2-0 victory over Winthrop Sunday evening at Eagle Field, giving the Camels their first win of the young season.

The Camels (1-1) proved the aggressor all match long, outshooting the Eagles (0-2) 22-7. Roberts led the team with four total shots, while Evans Dapaah put two on frame to force two of Jack Kilstrom's seven saves on the night.

In addition to the two goal scorers, nine other Camels recorded shots on the night. Skyler Wright and Xander Martin, put up shots off the bench along with Saito.

Roberts secured the first goal of the 2025 season in the 14th minute for his third career goal, doing so against the team which he scored his first career goal in 2022. Daniel Santos Rosa provided the assist from his right wing-back position.

Saito provided the insurance goal in the 39th minute with an assist by Wright. A transfer from Iowa Western, Saito scored six goals over two seasons for the Reivers, and he now opens his Campbell ledger in his second appearance.

The Campbell defense was a factor as well, holding Winthrop to two shots in the first half and five in the second. Goalkeeper Max Leviton faced just one shot on target, parrying the effort to earn the clean sheet.

The Camels held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-2, and they were called for offsides eight times against two for Winthrop.
