Campbell draws against High Point, 2-2

Camels move to 2-0-2 on the season

BUIES CREEK – Campbell and High Point played to a 2-2 draw Thursday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.

Campbell (2-0-2) controlled much of the momentum in the first half by jumping out to an early 2-0 lead scoring a pair of goals within the first 20 minutes of the match.

Avery Garrett opened the scoring in the 10th minute scoring her first collegiate goal and making her the sixth Camel to score a goal this season. Just outside the box, Samantha Witte passed it over to Ava Kanaar who set up Garrett to put the Camels ahead, 1-0.

Just nine minutes later, Susan Guzman doubled the lead, 2-0, with her first collegiate goal off the corner kick. Abby Connolly took the corner from the top hauling it to Natalie Jamison just inside the box before Guzman put the final touches on the ball and into the back of net.

High Point (0-2-2) pulled within one just before the half by converting in the 35th minute. The Panthers continued to gain momentum in the second half and scored the equalizer in the 61st minute to force a draw.

Campbell held a 11-6 edge in shots and a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks. The Camels were whistled for just seven fouls to the Panthers nine.

Head Coach Jeff Gross Quotable
"There are lessons learned at all time in sport. During wins you learn, during losses you learn, during ties you learn. I never question the intention or the effort of the women in our program. Today we learned that the game can change both ways in an instant. Our team will learn from this and they will apply themselves to gain from the experience. I'm proud of many aspects tonight and the intention to win the game when time was winding down was fun to watch. Roll Humps! CU Sunday!"
