COLUMBIA, SC – Campbell fell 3-0 to Clemson in the 2025 season opener. The match was the first of the Gamecock Classic in Columbia, SC.
Clemson collected the first set 25-19 in a set that was closer than the final score indicated, as the Tigers didn't stretch the lead beyond three points until going up 20-16.
Gwen Wolkow led all players with four kills in the first frame.
The Tigers pulled away earlier in the second, using a 10-0 run to grow a one-point lead to 11 at 24-13, and ultimately took the set 25-15.
The third set was the closest of the day, with Clemson prevailing 25-23. The Camels held their largest lead of the day early in the set up by three, before nearly trading points the rest of the way. Tied 22-22, the Tigers scored three of the match's final four points to nab the 25-23 third set win.
Abbie Tuyo put away a team-high nine kills on .316 hitting, while
Gwen Wolkow and
Maja Daca added eight each.
All four Campbell freshmen made their collegiate debuts Friday afternoon. Daca logged eight kills on on a team-best .350 hitting percentage.
Sadie Johnston suited up as a second libero and came away with six digs. Leah Freeseman notched her first kill, and
Ella Duong tallied a pair of digs.
Lauren Wheeler posted a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs in the first start of her career.
Hannah Pattie led the Camels with a team-high 15 assists.
Clemson's Kennedy Wagner led all players with 14 kills and helped the Tigers to hitting .358 as a team on the afternoon.
Campbell returns to action tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning with ETSU at 11am, before facing South Carolina at 4 o'clock.
