Camels Drop CAA Opener to Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Campbell surrendered a pair of goals with under 20 minutes left in the match to fall, 2-1, to reigning CAA Champion Stony Brook on Thursday night at LaVelle Stadium.

Campbell (2-4-2) carried much of the offensive momentum in the first 45 minutes of play taking six shots. Ella Wineka created the best opportunity just 15 minutes into the match but the Seawolves goalkeeper recorded her first save.

Stony Brook (6-1-2) struck in the 73rd minute to take the lead as Maya Corbett scored off a blocked shot to put the Seawolves out in front.

Just over two minutes later, the Seawolves were awarded a penalty kick and converted to double its lead. Samantha Witte was called for the foul inside the box

Zahra Fepessi would provide a spark in the 86th minute netting her first collegiate goal and cut into the deficit. Ella Wineka was credited with her first collegiate assist after finding Fepessi at the top of the box who then drew the goalie out from the net before she tapped it into the goal.

The Camels created several more opportunities in the second half taking 12 shots but the Seawolves defense held strong. The squad took a season high 18 shots with eight on goal. Wineka and Abby Connolly each tallied four.

Campbell registered a season high 13 fouls compared to the Seawolves seven. The Camels held a slight advantage in corner kicks 4-3.
