Camels sweep St. Thomas for seventh straight win

EVANSTON, ILL. – Campbell extended its win streak to seven matches with a 3-0 sweep of St. Thomas in the first match of the Northwestern Invitational.

Campbell improves to 8-2 on the year, and snapped St. Thomas' seven-match win streak in the process as the Tommies fall to 7-4.

Both Maja Daca and Abbie Tuyo returned from injury and contributed to a balanced offensive attack. Six Camels logged between four and nine kills as the squad hit .347 for the match, the second-best mark of the season.

Campbell opened the match with a 25-20 first set thanks to a strong finish to the opening frame. The set was tied at 18-18 before the Camels found another gear to close on a 7-3 run to secure the early advantage.

Campbell's defense stood tall in the second set, holding the Tommies to hitting only in the fourth set to take it 25-21. Lauren Wheeler and Ella Duong both tallied two aces apiece in the second set to help the Camels along.

The momentum kept rolling into the third set for Campbell to complete the sweep with a 25-11 win. Campbell hit a blistering .548 in the third set to pull away from the Tommies. Wheeler scored the final point with a highlight-worthy foot dig kill to the back corner for the win.

Daca and Wolkow both tallied nine kills to pace the attack. Lauren Wheeler notched a double-double with 15 assists and 12 digs.

The Camels are back in action tomorrow at 2pm to face Northwestern in the final non-conference match of the season. The match will be streamed on B1G+.
