Campbell opens CAA play with matchups against Towson and Drexel

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After nearly two weeks away from competition, the Fighting Camels are back on the court to open CAA play with road games against Towson and Drexel this weekend.

Last Time Out: Campbell fell to ECU in the final non-conference game of the season. Four Camels scored in double-figures, with Jasmine Nivar and Jasmine Felton leading the way with 12 points each.
 
Scouting the Opponent: The Tigers earned a two-point win over Morgan State earlier this week. India Johnston leads the team with 14.0 points per game. Kayla Morris averages 7.2 rebounds. The Tigers were picked seventh in the preseason CAA poll. Johnston was tabbed preseason All-CAA second team. Drexel is coming off a 10-point loss to Vermont to end non-conference action. Amaris Baker leads the CAA in scoring, averaging 21.2 points per game.
 
Series History: The Camels hold a 7-1 overall record in the matchup. Campbell has won three in a row against Towson. The Tigers' lone win was in 1994. The Camels are an even 2-2 against Drexel.
 
Chasing One Thousand: Senior Gianni Boone is 50 points away from eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career.
 
History for Nivar: Jasmine Nivar scored 15 points in the fourth quarter against Norfolk St., becoming the first Camel to ever score 15 or more points in any quarter. The NCAA instituted quarters in the women's game prior to the 2015-16 season.
 
Quieting the Whistle: The Camels committed just four fouls against Carolina University, setting a new program record for fewest fouls in a contest.
 
Second Quarter Defense: CU is allowing 11.7 points in second quarters, including lows of 0 to Virginia-Lynchburg, 2 to Grambling State, and 4 to both Western Carolina and Carolina University. Six teams have scored 13+ points against the Camels in the second frame.
 
The Camels are one of four teams to hold an opponent to 0 points in a quarter this season (CSUN, UCLA, Ohio State). Campbell is the only D1 team to hold four opponents to less than 5 points in any quarter.
 
Leading the Conference: The Camels are holding opponents to 58.1 points per game, second in the CAA. CU is 2nd in the CAA and 21st in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (16.0). The team is 2nd in scoring margin (9.1)

National Nivar: Jasmine Nivar was named to the Tamika Catchings Award preseason watch list by the USBWA. She is one of 20 student athletes on the list and just one of two from a mid-major program.  
 
Freshman 20-piece: Freshman Jasmine Nivar led the Camels with 20 points against Tulane. She's the first freshman to score 20 points in a season opener at Campbell. She became just the fifth freshman since 2009 to score 20 points in any game.
 
Preseason Accolades: Senior Gianni Boone was named to the preseason All-CAA First Team. The Camels, who finished last year as the CAA runner-up, were picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches' poll.
 
Decade under Fisher: Head Coach Ronny Fisher enters his 10th season at the helm in Buies Creek. He has amassed a 181-109 record and has twice led Campbell to a program record 23 wins in a season.
