Smith scores 32 in loss at Elon

ELON, NC – DJ Smith scored a career-high 32 but the Camels came up a point short in an 83-82 loss at Elon Saturday night. Elon's only lead of the game came on the game's final bucket with 1:38 to play.

Campbell drops to 9-9, 3-2 in the CAA, seeing its three-game win streak snapped. Elon improves to 11-6, 3-1 in league play.

Smith's electric first half saw guard go 4-5 from three for 19 first-half points. Cam Gregory chipped in three first-half threes as well with 11 points to help Campbell take a 43-37 lead into the locker room.

Elon entered boasting the CAA's top scoring offense and flexed that accolade with 46 second-half points on 62% shooting from the floor. Kacper Klaczek led the charge with 13 of his team-high 20 in the second half. Elon nabbed the lead with 1:38 to go on what turned out to be the final points of the game thanks to a layup from Randall Pettus II.

Campbell had the final look, with the ball with five seconds to play, but a contested jumper from Tasos Cook didn't fall at the horn.

DJ Smith connected on seven three-pointers on the evening, the most by a Camel since 2020. He also dished out four assists and hauled in four rebounds.

Smith was joined in double figures by Cam Gregory with 16, and Jeremiah Johnson with 13. Dovydas Butka had a nice all-around game with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.
