Campbell outlasts UNCW 67-61 in overtime

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell set a program record with 13 blocks, and Olivia Tucker led the way with 18 points and five assists to defeat UNCW 67-61 in overtime, Tuesday afternoon at Gore Arena.

The Fighting Camels (13-8, 6-2 CAA) outscored the Seahawks (5-14, 1-7) 14-8 in the overtime period to move to 1-1 in overtime games this season and 8-0 at home. Jasmine Felton scored six of her 10 points in the extra frame, and Hadleigh Dill hit a three in the corner with 1:29 to go to push the lead to two possessions.

UNCW's Rori Cox led all scorers with 29 points on 11-of-25 shooting. She made two free throws with 34 seconds left in overtime to bring it back within three, but those were the final points for the visitors. Tucker and Jasmine Nivar combined to go 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds to ice the game.

Defensively, Felton led the way with five blocks, a new career high and tied for the most against a CAA opponent. N'na Konate added three rejections, bringing her total to 30 on the year and a tie for 10th place in program history for blocks in a single season. She is the third freshman on the top 10 list.

13 blocks beat out the previous program record of 11, set on November 7, 2022, against NC Wesleyan.

Gianni Boone kept her momentum from last game, scoring six points in the first quarter to lead the Camels to a 16-11 lead after one frame. Ciara Alexander added four off the bench, and Rori Cox led UNCW with four points as well.

Each team scored 12 points in the second quarter to keep the difference at five at halftime. Olivia Tucker knocked down two three-pointers in the frame, moving her first half point total to eight. Icyss Storm and Kylah Silver each scored four to pace the Seahawks.

Campbell built an 11-point lead after the third quarter, thanks in large part to its defense. UNCW committed seven turnovers in the frame, and the Camels earned their biggest lead of 14 at the 3:09 mark after Boone sunk two free throws.

The Seahawks opened the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run to get back to within one, 43-44, and Cox scored six of those nine. Boone answered with a layup on a backdoor cut for CU's first basket of the quarter, pushing the lead back to three.

Boone's layup began an 8-0 run for Campbell to build the lead back to nine, 52-43. Felton, Alexander and Nivar aided the run.

UNCW came back to tie the game with a 10-1 run in the final two minutes, all on the back of Cox. She capped the regulation period with a three pointer with 2.7 seconds left to tie the game at 53.

Campbell pulled back the momentum in the overtime period and held the Seahawks without a field goal (0-8) over the final 3:12 of the game.

In addition to Tucker and Felton, two more Camels ended the night with double-digit points. Boone contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, and Nivar added 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Konate was right behind them with eight points and nine rebounds, nearly notching her second consecutive double double.
