Box Score BUIES CREEK – The Camels ended with a weekend split after falling to Towson 3-1 Saturday afternoon. The Tigers hit .319 on the day, the highest mark by a Campbell opponent this season.
The loss drops Campbell to 6-11, 2-4 in the CAA, while Towson improves to 10-7, 4-4 in league play.
Emma McCartney led Campbell with team-bests in kills (16) and digs (15) her fifth double-double of the year.
Campbell put together an efficient opening frame, putting away 19 kills on .368 hitting to narrowly win the first 25-23. Campbell trailed 18-14, but chipped away late to nab the early advantage.
Maddie Lambers led the way with four kills while hitting .667 in the first.
Towson bounced back with a 25-16 second set. That hot Campbell offense disappeared in the second, putting away only six kills and hitting -.079.
The Camels came up short again in the second, falling 25-22. Towson hit a blistering .516 in the set with 18 kills and just two errors to help pull away late.
Towson finished things off with a 25-17 third set, hitting .429 while Campbell hit only .077.
Victoria Tupy joined McCartney in double figures with 10 kills, and
Aubree Fernandez tallied 15 digs.
Towson was led by Malinah Purcell-Telefoni's 14 kills, pacing three in double figures.
Campbell hits the road next weekend to visit Hampton. First serve Friday is set for 6 p.m. on FloCollege.
