BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Fighting Camels dropped their seventh one-goal contest of the season, falling to Charleston 2-1 Saturday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.
The Cougars improved to 6-2-2 and 2-2-1 in CAA action, while the Camels now sit at 0-9-1 (0-5 CAA).
The Cougars opened the scoring early off the boot of Henrik Boer in the sixth minute. Bemanzi Alibaruho doubled the advantage for the visiting team in the 15
th minute with assists from Michiharu Takanashi and Stian Bendvold.
The Camels responded late in the first half to bring the deficit back to one.
Michael Wooten regained possession near midfield in the 43
rd minute, and he sent the ball to the right wing into the path of
Kana Dube.
Dube carried the ball down the boundary before sending it into the box, where
Augustus Squillace sent the first-time volley past the goalkeeper into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Campbell continued to carry momentum through the second half, but the home team was unable to find the equalizer. The Camels outshot the Cougars, 13-6, the most shots the team has recorded in a game this season. However, three of Charleston's efforts were on frame compared to just one by Campbell.
Squillace and
Andrey Mora each had high-quality chances in the second half, but each shot nearly missed past the left post.
Charleston did put the ball in the back of the net in the 64
th minute on a set piece, but the Cougars were offsides negating the goal. On the night, Charleston was whistled for offsides seven times.
Campbell won the corner kick battle, 5-0, holding the opponents to no corner kicks for the first time this season.
