ELON, NC – Twelve different Camels tallied a kill to help Campbell beat Elon in straight sets Friday night at the Schar Center. Campbell has now won five in a row, with three of those wins coming in straight-set fashion.
Campbell improves to 11-11, 7-4 in the CAA to keep pace with Towson in a tie for third place. Elon falls to 10-13, 7-6 in the league.
Victoria Tupy led the attack with 11 kills, with
Emma McCartney adding 10.
Alexis Jodie tallied a double-double with 12 aces and a team-high 11 digs.
The Camels came out hot and hit .359 to cruise to a comfortable 25-16 win in the first set. Four Camels logged three or more kills in the opening frame. Down 10-8, Campbell hit the gas for a quick 7-0 run to take the lead and never looked back, closing on a larger 17-6 run.
Campbell showed no signs of slowing down in the second, winning it 25-14. The offense stayed hot and hit above .300 again, while the service line heated up too with four Campbell aces in the set without allowing one from Elon.
Elon fought for the third set and ultimately pushed the score beyond 25. After plenty of back-and-forth, Elon held set point leading 24-23, but an Elon attack error tied the score and returned serve to Campbell.
Ella Duong made sure to end the match in three sets with back-to-back kills to close the set and the match 26-24.
Campbell hit .283 as a team, and held Elon to .131, the third-lowest percentage against Campbell of the season.
The Fighting Camels and Phoenix will meet for a Halloween tilt tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. That one will again be broadcast on FloCollege.
