Camels earn 10th win at home in come-from-behind fashion over Hofstra

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell's defense held Hofstra to 20 points in the second half and came back from a halftime deficit to beat the Pride, 58-47, for its 10th home win Friday night at Gore Arena in its annual Play4Kay Game.

Jasmine Nivar led the way with 17 points for the Camels, who improved to 16-9 and 9-3 in CAA play. Chloe Sterling led Hofstra (4-19, 2-10) with 14 points, and Sandra Magolico contributed 15 rebounds.

15 of Nivar's points came in the second half to help the Camels, who now sit in third place in the CAA standings.

Campbell found its groove defensively throughout the second half by forcing six Hofstra turnovers. The Pride's struggles continued in the fourth quarter, as it shot just 2-of-13 in the final frame. Conversely, the Camels shot 50% in the third quarter and 54% in the fourth, building to their biggest lead of 11 points with less than two minutes to play.

The first quarter saw each team make runs before ultimately ending the frame one point apart. Olivia Tucker made two three pointers to key an 11-0 run for Campbell, but Hofstra answered with a 7-0 run to end the quarter trailing 13-12.

The Pride's run continued with 10 straight points to begin the second quarter and build its lead to nine. Gianni Boone had an answer, scoring five points within a 7-0 run from Campbell to make it a two-point game again. The teams exchanged three pointers before Hofstra made a layup with four seconds left, making the score 27-23 at halftime in favor of the visitors.

The Camels slowly made ground in the third quarter but were always met with a Hofstra answer before a three pointer from Hadleigh Dill put the Camels back ahead by two points, 40-38, with 33 seconds to go in the quarter.

A quick 9-2 run, all from Nivar, sparked the Camels to start the fourth quarter to extend their lead to nine. Hofstra retaliated with a 4-0 spurt by Sterling at the foul line but ultimately never closed the gap further. CU held the visitors to over eight and a half minutes without a field goal in the fourth quarter.

Tucker and Boone joined Nivar in double figures with 13 and 14 points, respectively. Jasmine Felton added six points on two three pointers and dished out four assists.
