Camels defeat Seahawks, 54-52, for consecutive come from behind wins

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Campbell came back from a halftime deficit for the second time in three days to beat UNCW, 54-52, Sunday afternoon at Trask Coliseum.

The Camels (17-9, 10-3) scored 32 points in the second half, outscoring the Seahawks (6-18, 2-11) by 10 to erase an eight-point halftime deficit. Jasmine Nivar led the Camels with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Rori Cox paced UNCW with 14 points.

UNCW led by four after the first quarter, 13-9. Rori Cox had six for the Seahawks, and Gianni Boone led the Camels with four. Campbell led, 9-7, but could not take the lid off the basket and missed its last 10 shots of the quarter.

The Seahawks added to their lead through the second quarter, taking a 30-22 lead into halftime. Campbell improved its shooting percentage and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line, but UNCW had four points off turnovers and three second-chance points to counter the free throw disparity.

CU made a comeback in the third quarter, using a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to just one, 36-35, with 2:38 to play in the frame. A layup from Nivar gave the Camels the lead, 37-36, with 1:18 left in the quarter. Cox answered with two straight three pointers to give UNCW a 42-37 lead entering the final frame.

Campbell retook the lead with a three pointer from Jasmine Felton at the 7:18 mark of the fourth quarter, 44-42.

Felton's day ended with 10 points and eight rebounds, and Boone contributed 11 points. Ciara Alexander brought down 11 rebounds off the bench

UNCW responded once again to take the lead, but Olivia Tucker stole and inbounds pass to tie the game at 47 with a fastbreak layup with 2:54 to play. Later in the quarter, Tucker stole the ball again and pushed it ahead to Nivar, who was fouled on a layup attempt. She made both free throws to put the Camels up by four, 53-49, with 12 seconds to play and Campbell's biggest lead of the day.

McCall King made a three pointer for UNCW to move within one, but Felton went 1-of-2 at the line with 0.6 seconds left, and the Seahawks did not get up a final shot.
