Campbell drops contest against Elon

ELON, N.C. – Campbell dropped its matchup against Elon, 68-54, Friday night at the Schar Center.
 
The Camels now sit at 17-10 and 10-4 in CAA play, while the Phoenix improved to 12-13 (7-6).
 
The Phoenix jumped out to a 20-9 lead with 2:19 to play in the first quarter after starting the game 9-of-11 from the field. Campbell responded to hold Elon scoreless the rest of the quarter, and Olivia Tucker made her second three of the game to cut the deficit to eight after the first frame.
 
The Camels bounced back with a strong defensive performance in the second quarter, holding Elon to just nine points on 4-of-13 shooting. Campbell made two three pointers and four free throws in the frame, cutting the deficit to five going into halftime, 29-24.
 
Tucker led the way in the first half with nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Ciara Alexander made an impact off the bench once again, providing four points and four rebounds.
 
Campbell opened the second half on a quick 7-0 run to take the lead, 31-29. Tucker made her fourth three of the day, and N'na Konate converted two layups to push the Camels ahead.
 
Elon responded with a 7-0 run of its own to push the lead back to five, 36-31, thanks to five points from Ashanti Fox. The home team pushed the lead back to eight at the end of the third quarter, 42-34.
 
The Phoenix pushed its lead to as big as 17 in the fourth quarter. Campbell pushed it to single digits with 3:47 to play but did not make it closer than nine in the final frame.
 
Tucker led all scorers with 25, with four three pointers and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. LaNae' Corbett paced Elon with 16 points. Qunzia Fulmore added 10 points and eight rebounds.
