Campbell splits doubleheader with Troy

Troy, Ala. — Campbell baseball split its doubleheader against Troy on Sunday at Riddle-Pace Field.

Campbell (3-4) picked up its first victory over Troy (3-4) since the 2004 season when the programs were a part of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Game One (Campbell 13, Troy 1)
Campbell collected a season-high 13 hits as the offense exploded for 13 runs in game two of the series. The Camels hit five home runs in the game which they previously did last season against Elon on May 10.

Trent Rumley got things going offensively for the Camels on the first pitch of the game launching the team's first home run of the season. Carlos Lugo followed with a base hit before scoring on a Joey Morton RBI sacrifice fly to give the Campbell a 2-0 advantage.

Troy looked to score in the bottom of the frame by working the bases loaded but a strikeout swinging ended the threat. The game would then enter into a weather delay before being suspended, play would then resume on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Campbell got going early to open up the day as Jonah Oster recorded an RBI sacrifice fly to extend the lead, 3-0 in the third. Troy would get one back in the bottom half off a RBI double off the centerfield wall.

The Camels would quickly respond in the next half inning exploding for seven runs on five hits. The inning was highlighted by a trio of home runs off the bats of Jett Music, Lukas Schramm and Morton.

Music led off the inning with a solo blast to left field while Schramm and Morton launched two-run home runs to make it 10-1. The last time the Camels hit three home runs in an inning was last season against Elon on May 10.

Schramm would go on to launch his second home run of the game, a three-run shot to deep center field to give the Camels a 13-1 lead.

Cooper Clark (1-1) was stellar on the mound pitching five complete innings allowing just one run on five hits to earn his first win of the season. The right-hander picked up three strikeouts and retired 15 of the 21 batters he faced.

Connor Hensley earned the start pitching two scoreless innings allowing just two hits and picked up three strikeouts.

Carlos Lugo had a big day at plate going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Five Camels recorded multi-hit performances as Schramm led the way going 2-for-4 with game-high five RBIs and two runs scored.

Game Two (Campbell 4, Troy 8)
Troy got out to an early lead in the bottom of the first on a three-run home run but the Camels answered with four runs in the second, making it 4-3.

Schramm recorded his sixth RBI of the day scoring Music who led off the inning with a double. Joe Simpson and Lugo recorded RBI base hits to give the Camels the lead.

The Trojans would answer with one to knot things up in the second before scoring three more in third to take the lead for good as Campbell would go scoreless the rest of the way.

Simpson registered his first multi-hit performance of the season going 2-for-4 with an RBI while Andrew Schuldt picked up his second consecutive multi-hit performance.
