PHILADELPHIA – Campbell shot just 38% on the road and fell at Drexel 65-60 Thursday night in Philadelphia. The Camels led for just 2:04 of the game, with neither team ever leading by more than single digits.
The loss drops Campbell to 13-16, 7-9 in the CAA.
Dovydas Butka had another big game against the Dragons, going for 22 points and 11 rebounds to log his 10
th double-double of the season.
A low scoring first half left the sides knotted at 27-27. Campbell shot 37% to Drexel's 35% from the floor, with both teams shooting less than 30% from distance. Johnson led the Camels with 10 points and four boards at the break.
Butka got things going after the half with a double-double in the second half alone with 14 points and 10 boards after the break. Campbell again shot only 38% after the break including 3-12 from distance. The Camels led just once in the second half, by two at 46-44.
DJ Smith tied the game at 57 on a three-pointer with 1:12 to play before a quick Drexel basket put the Dragons on top for the remainder of the game. The Dragons went 6-6 at the foul line in the final 20 seconds to hold off Campbell for the 65-60 final.
Jeremiah Johnson finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while
DJ Smith added 10 points.
Shane Blakeney led the Dragons with 22 points.
Campbell finished shooting 37% for the game, marking the fourth straight game under 40%.
