BUIES CREEK — Campbell baseball dropped its series opener with Wright State, 6-4, on Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
Wright State scored five runs in the final three frames as Campbell plated a run in four innings. The Raiders outhit the Camels 10-5 and each squad left nine runners on base.
Campbell falls to 3-6 overall while Wright State improves to 3-5.
Starting pitcher
Camden Wimbish was stellar on the mound allowing just one run on six hits in six innings of work. The right-hander earned his first start of the season and picked up a career high nine strikeouts in the outing.
Wright State (3-5) got on the board in the second after back-to-back extra base hits gave them the early lead, 1-0.
Campbell (3-6) would even things up in the third as
Darnell Parker Jr. tallied his first RBI of the season on an RBI sacrifice fly.
Lukas Schramm would then give the Camels the lead, 2-1, in the fourth on an RBI triple that was ripped down the right field line scoring
Andrew Schuldt who previously drew a walk. Schramm tallied his second RBI of the game on a RBI sacrifice fly to extend the Camel's lead in the sixth, 3-1.
The Raiders would go on to plate a pair of runs in the sixth to even things up at three all after a solo home run and RBI sacrifice fly. The Camels would respond to retake the lead in the bottom of the frame as
Carlos Lugo recorded an infield single to bring in
Elijah Clayton all the way from second base.
Wright State retook the lead in the eighth on a two-out RBI double before adding insurance in the ninth to make the final, 6-4.
Jett Music (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound allowing three runs on three hits but picked up a career high seven strikeouts in the outing.
Five different Camels tallied hits in the contest as Schramm led going 1-for-2 with two runs batted in, a triple, and walk.
