Camels get third straight win

GREENSOBOR, NC – Campbell picked up its third straight victory with a 79-71 win at NC A&T Saturday afternoon. The Camels took an early lead and never gave it back, leading for more than 36 minutes of action.
 
Campbell improves to 12-13, and back to .500 at 6-6 in the CAA. NC A&T falls to 9-14, 2-10 with the loss.
 
Jeremiah Johnson led the way with 24 points along with a season-high eight rebounds and four assists. The sophomore shot 8-12 FG and 3-4 from distance. Johnson logged his fifth game with 20+ points and now averages 17.6 ppg in CAA play.
 
After leading by as many as 10, Campbell took a four-point lead into the break behind 13 points from Johnson and 10 from Butka. Both teams shot 52% in the opening frame, as the Camels went 5-7 from distance and 11-14 at the foul line to carry a 40-36 lead into the half.
 
Campbell stretched the lead to as many as 13 in the second half, but could never truly put the Aggies away. A&T held that deficit around seven to eight points for most of the second half and down the stretch. The Camels held on late for the 79-71 win.
 
Chris Fields Jr. provided two big sparks in the second half, with a chasedown block that led to a Johnson three, and an and-one in front of the Campbell bench. Fields finished with nine points and six rebounds in the game.
 
Dovydas Butka logged his ninth double-double of the season, with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Campbell shot 8-18 (44%) from downtown, hitting five more threes than the Aggies to help provide the difference.
 
NC A&T was led by 17 points from Lewis walker, pacing three Aggies in double figures.
 
Campbell now leads into the longest homestand of CAA play, with three consectutive home games against three of the top teams in the league. The homestand starts against Charleston on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. That game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
