Campbell falls to Wright State in series finale, 3-1

BUIES CREEK — Campbell baseball fell to Wright State, 3-1, in the series finale on Sunday at Jim Perry Stadium. 

The Camels drop to 4-7 overall as the Raiders improve to 4-6. The Camels outhit is opponent for the third time this season and were just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base. 

Similar to Saturday's contest, Wright State (4-6) got on the board in the top of the first inning scoring two runs on two hits. The Raiders tallied a leadoff walk and base hit before Cy Turner ripped a two-RBI triple to left center for the go ahead runs as they would never surrender the lead. 

Campbell looked to answer in the bottom of the first as Joey Morton ripped a double to left before being called out a home on Jonah Oster's base hit up the middle. 

Wright State would go on to score again in the seventh on a solo home run to extend its lead, 3-0. 

Campbell (4-6) eliminated the shutout in the seventh as Logan Chapman launched a solo shot to left to cut into the deficit, 3-1. The home run marks Chapman's first of the season and in a Campbell uniform. 

Three Camels dialed up multi-hit performances including Joe Simpson, Trent Rumley, and Chapman. Jonah Oster extended his hitting steak to seven games as Chapman now rides a six game hitting streak. 

Cooper Clark (1-2) suffered the loss after giving up a pair of runs in the first but quickly settled into the game. The right-hander allowed two runs on three hits and tied his season-high with six strikeouts. 

Mason Smith saw time in relief allowing one run on one hit and tallied a season-high six strikeouts. 

Chet Lax secured the victory for the Raiders in relief allowing one run on our hits. The starter Warren Hartzell shut down the Camels allowing just two hit sand picking up seven strikeouts.
