GREENSBORO, N.C. — Campbell baseball scored a season-high 21 runs en route to a 21-11 victory in eight innings over North Carolina A&T on Friday night at World War Memorial Stadium.
Campbell tallied a season-high 21 runs on a season-high 21 hits in the contest as they scored in all but two innings. The 21 runs marks the most since Campbell scored 20 runs against Bucknell on March 10, 2024.
The Camels improve to 8-8 overall and are off to the best start in CAA play with a 4-0 record. The Aggies fall to 3-14 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
Campbell (8-8, 4-0 CAA) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the opening frame after a trio of players registered home runs in the inning.
Jonah Oster started his day off hot with a three-run home run to left field scoring
Mike Murphy who led off the game drawing a five-pitch walk and
Joe Simpson who reached on an error before scoring on the play.
Andrew Schuldt and
Logan Chapman continued the scoring blasting back-to-back home runs to put the Camels up 6-0. The Camels last hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning against Delaware last season as
Darnell Parker Jr. and
Jackson Thompson went back-to-back.
North Carolina A&T (3-14-1-3 CAA) cut into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the opening frame but the Camels quickly answered in the top of the second with three runs.
Joey Morton launched the Camels fourth home run of the day, a two-run shot to right center before
Carlos Lugo scored on an Aggie error to make it, 9-3.
Campbell continued the offense tying a season high seven runs in an inning on seven hits. The inning was highlighted by Oster's second home run of the game, a two-run blast to left field. Chapman,
Elijah Clayton, Murphy, and Simpson registered RBI-base hits in the inning to make it 16-6.
NC A&T continued to cut into the led in the third through fifth innings scoring eight runs over the three innings to make it 17-11 after four innings.
The Camels plated a run in both the fifth and sixth innings as Schuldt and Simpson picked up RBIs in the innings and wrapped things up in the top of the eighth scoring three runs to end things early.
All nine starters tallied hits in the contest as five registered multi-hit performances. Oster drove in a season-high five runs while Schuldt and Chapman drove in three each. Schuldt eclipsed 100 career RBI and runs scored in the contest.
Mason Smith (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after pitching the final 3.2 innings and limiting the Aggie offense to just one hit. The right-hander picked up five strikeouts and retired 10 of the 13 batters he faced.
