BUIES CREEK — Campbell baseball picked up its first ranked win of the season in walk off fashion to secure the 4-3 victory over No. 16 Coastal Carolina on Wednesday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
With runners in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth inning,
Mike Murphy swung at the first pitch he saw, driving it back up the middle, driving in pinch runner
Lukas Schramm to score the game-winning run for the final 4-3.
The Camels pitching staff allowed just one hit on the night and picked up 14 strikeouts but issued 10 walks.
Braxton Shaffer collected a season-high seven strikeouts in a season-long three innings of work.
Cooper Clark picked up the win tossing the final 0.2 innings.
The ranked win marks the Camels' first since the Camels defeated No.17 Duke on Feb. 25, 2025. Additionally, it marks the highest ranked victory since Campbell sixth-ranked Duke on April 23, 2024.
Campbell (11-9) got out to an early lead in the second scoring two runs as
Elijah Clayton drew a bases loaded hit by pitch and
Carlos Lugo drew a bases loaded six-pitch walk. The Camels would tack on another in the sixth as Claton would record his second RBI on a bases loaded four-pitch walk to make it 3-0.
Coastal Carolina (13-7) cut into the lead in the seventh with a pair of runs scoring on a bases loaded hit by pitch and walk, making it 3-2.
In the top of the ninth, the Chanticleers evened things up on a sacrifice fly to left field but Murphy's walk off RBI single lifted the Camels past Coastal. Prior to Murphy's plate appearance, both squads combined to go 0-for-23 with runners in scoring position.
Logan Chapman and
Joey Morton led the Camels offense with two hits each as Clayton tallied a pair of RBI.
