TOWSON, Md. — Campbell baseball defeated CAA-foe Towson 19-4 in seven innings on Friday afternoon at John B Schuerholz Park.
After the squads went back-and-forth,
Jett Music tallied a pinch hit three-run homer to give the Camels the lead in the sixth as they would never surrender the lead again.
Campbell (12-9, 6-1 CAA) scored a combined 16 runs on eight hits in its final two innings. The inning was highlighted by
Logen Sutton's first hit as a Camel to drive in the final two runs of the game.
Towson (7-11, 0-7 CAA) got out to an early lead on a solo home run but the Camels quickly responded in the top of the third with a pair of runs.
Elijah Clayton led off the inning with his first home run as a Camel before
Joey Morton tallied his 19th RBI of the season on a base hit to right field to make it 2-1.
The Tigers evened things up in the fourth on an RBI double but once again the Camels responded with a run in the top of the next frame as
Carlos Lugo recorded an RBI groundout to make it 3-2.
Following Music's home run, Lugo plated Clayton on an RBI infield single and pulled off the double steal with
Joe Simpson to give the Camels a 8-4 lead after five innings.
Towson regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double to make it 4-3.
Campbell scored 11 runs on five hits and nine free passes in the seventh for the final, 19-4.
Connor Hensley (2-0) earned the win in relief tossing 1.2 innings allowing one run on three hits and a strikeout.
Camden Wimbish earned the start tossing 4.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits and picked up five strikeouts.
Clayton led the offense collecting a season high three hits and went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBI. Four Camels registered multi-hit performances including Simpson, Lugo, and
Mike Murphy.
