TOWSON, Md. — Campbell baseball tied its season-high collecting 16 hits en route to a 20-4 win over Towson in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.
Campbell secured its third straight conference series and moved to 7-1 in the CAA and 13-9 overall. Towson falls to 7-12 and 0-8 in the league.
Campbell (13-9, 7-1 CAA) got off to a hot start in the first as
Joe Simpson led off with a double before scoring on
Joey Morton's RBI single. Morton would then score the second run of the inning as
Jonah Oster tallied his first hit of the game to right field making it 2-0.
The Camels continued the scoring in the third plating seven runs on four hits and a Tiger miscue. With the bases loaded, Oster blasted his fifth home run of the season, a grand slam to left. Andy Schuldt and
Elijah Clayton tallied back-to-back hits to plate three more making it 9-0.
Towson (7-12, 0-8 CAA) cut into the lead on a Camel miscue with a pair of runners on and scored the third run of the inning on an RBI double to make it 9-3 in the third.
After
Logan Chapman tallied his first hit of the game, he scored on a stolen base attempt by the Camels to make it 10-3 in the fourth.
Campbell scored five runs on four hits in in the fifth as
Jett Music launched his second home run of the series, a two-run shot to left followed by a Lugo RBI double and a Chapman sacrifice fly.
The Camels added five runs in the seventh highlighted by
Mike Murphy's first home run as a Camel as he drove in the final runs of the game on a two-run blast to left field.
David Rossow earned his fourth win of the season allowing three runs on six hits in five innings of work.
Owen Simmons saw time in relief allowing one run on two hits over 2.0 innings.
Oster went 3-for-5 with five RBI while Murphy went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored to lead the offense. Simpson, Clayton, and Morton each tallied two hits in the contest.
