Oster hits for cycle, Campbell sweeps Towson, 12-8

TOWSON, Md. — After being down six runs after the first inning, Campbell baseball scored 12 unanswered to sweep the series over Towson, 12-8, on Sunday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.

Jonah Oster hit for the cycle going 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Oster is the first Camel in 27 years to hit for the cycle since Dan Krause on Feb. 13, 1999 vs. Marshall.

Towson (7-13, 0-9 CAA) opened the scoring in the bottom of the opening frame exploding for six runs on five hits for the early lead. A pair of home runs and an RBI groundout plated the runs.

Campbell (14-9, 8-1 CAA) immediately responded with four runs in the second to bring the deficit within two. Jett Music launched a two-run shot to center field to get things going for the Camels. Carlos Lugo followed with an RBI base hit and Logan Chapman drew a sacrifice bunt to make it 6-4 after two.

The momentum continued in the third for the Camels as Oster sent one over the right field wall marking his sixth long ball of the season. A pair of Tiger miscues plated two more in the inning to give the Camels the lead for good.

Mike Murphy and Music blasted back-to-back home runs in the fourth to extend the lead 11-6. Oster registered a base hit up the middle before Mike Murphy lifted his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left before Music's solo home run making it 11-6.

Oster's RBI triple in the eighth completed the cycle and would be the final run of the game for the Camels.

The Tigers looked to answer in the ninth scoring two runs but Braxton Shaffer entered in relief and collected the final two outs by strikeout.

Beau Brailey (3-0) earned his third win tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits. Cooper Clark was stellar in relief working 5.1 innings allowing two runs on one hit and picked up four strikeouts.

Music registered his third multi-hit performance going 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI. Jackson Thompson tallied his first multi-hit performance of the season going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks.
