SNOW HILL, N.C. – Campbell opened play in fine form Friday in the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate, finishing the day 12-under as a team.
Erik Johansson and
Joachim Larsen Tegner are among the top three individuals, and the Camels (276) trail CAA rival Elon (275) by one stroke in the 54-hole event, which continues Saturday before concluding Sunday.
Johansson matched his collegiate low score with a six-under 66 on the 7372-yard layout, while Larsen Tegner equaled his season-best with a five-under 67.
Johansson's day included eight birdies before he made back-to-back bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes. He then birdied the par-five 18th to match the 66 he shot in the 2024 Seahawk Intercollegiate at Landfall.
The only blemish on Larsen Tegner's scorecard was a bogey on the par-four 16th hole. He made six birdies overall.
Benjamin Killingstad is tied for th at one-under 71, while
William Sundborn is T24 at even par.
Adrian Bergqvist (77) and
Logan Graf (78) are tied for 68th and 76th, respectively.
Twenty-three players in the 92-golfer field finished the opening round in red numbers. Dylan Lewis of Elon shot a 7-under 65 to lead Johannson by one.
Campbell's team total is just two shots off its season-best round, a 14-under 274 the team compiled last October at the Bash in the Boro.
Defending champion Campbell will be paired with Elon and East Carolina (277) for Saturday's second round and start from the first tee at 9:48 a.m. Live scoring is available at
