Hubley named Co-CAA Rookie of the Week

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Freshman pitcher Katelyn Hubley was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Hubley made two starts at the Battle at the Max tournament, earning two wins with nine strikeouts and only two earned runs allowed over 12 innings for a 1.17 ERA. The Henrico, Va., native was efficient in the circle after amassing 114 strikes on 196 total pitches over the weekend.

On Friday against Rider, the freshman started and pitched four innings before returning in the final frame to close out the game. She allowed one unearned run on four hits while striking out seven. In Sunday's finale against East Carolina, the Henrico, Va., native tossed a complete game, giving up four hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts. After the Pirates scored three runs in the first inning, Hubley allowed just one unearned run the rest of the way.

The honor marks the first weekly CAA award of her career.

Hubley shares the honor with Monmouth's Dominique Lopez. NC A&T junior Devin Long was named CAA Pitcher of the Week, while Towson sophomore outfielder Kaci Benton earned CAA Player of the Week.

Hubley and the Camels return to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium on March 4 for a midweek battle against the ECU Pirates at 5 p.m.
