Softball opens CAA play at Hampton

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell Camels open conference play with a three-game road series against the Hampton Lady Pirates at HU Softball Stadium.

Friday and Saturday's games are scheduled for noon, while Sunday's series finale begins at 1 p.m.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Hampton enters the weekend with a 5-10 record. The Lady Pirates are coming off a split midweek doubleheader with Youngstown State and have played their best at home, posting a 3-3 record in Hampton. Hampton is led by head coach Cat Tarvin in her second season. In 2025, the Lady Pirates finished 15-34 overall with a 5-22 mark in conference play. Hampton was picked to finish sixth in the CAA South in the conference's preseason poll.

Earlier this season, freshman third baseman Sydney Evans earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors after a strong showing at the Battle of the Bay Tournament, posting a .500/.500/.800 slash line. Senior outfielder Carmynn Bonner was named an All-CAA preseason honorable mention. She leads the Lady Pirates offensively with a .444 batting average, 20 hits, 14 RBIs, five doubles, two home runs and a .689 slugging percentage.

SERIES HISTORY

Campbell holds a 20-2 advantage in the all-time series against Hampton. The teams last met in a three-game series last season in Buies Creek, where Campbell swept the Lady Pirates with two run-rule victories. Across the three games, the Camels outscored Hampton 29-4.

LAST TIME OUT

The Campbell softball team dropped a tight 2–1 contest to ECU on Wednesday night at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

The Pirates opened the scoring in the first inning, using a leadoff double and a sacrifice fly to take a 1–0 lead. Campbell answered in the bottom of the second when Haley Krebs drew a walk, stole second and scored on a single through the right side by Livie Davis to tie the game at 1–1. ECU regained the lead in the fourth on a single and a Campbell fielding error, bringing home what proved to be the game-winning run.

Davis finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Krebs reached base three times and scored the Camels' lone run. Kasey Wolfe kept Campbell within striking distance, allowing two runs, one earned, over six innings. Emily Allegood worked a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout.
