BUIES CREEK — Campbell secured its CAA opening series with a 6-1 win over William & Mary on Saturday at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Camels move to 2-0 in league play and 6-7 overall while the Tribe moves to 0-2 in CAA action and 5-7 overall. The squad secured its second straight CAA opening series after took its first series last season against UNCW.
For the second consecutive game, Campbell used just two pitchers as starter
David Rossow (2-1) picked up his second win of the season. Rossow allowed one run on two hits and picked up a career high nine strikeouts and retired 15-of-19 batters faced.
Mason Smith earned his first save of the season tossing the final four innings allowing just three hits and picked up three strikeouts.
Jonah Oster put the Camels on the board in the third inning blasting his second home run of the season, a three-run shot to left center making it, 3-0.
Joe Simpson led off the inning drawing a five-pitch walk before
Joey Morton was hit by a pitch to put runners on.
William & Mary answered in the fourth on an RBI groundout to cut the lead to two but Campbell quickly responded in the bottom of the frame as
Logan Chapman scored on a double play to make it 4-1.
Campbell plated its final runs in the sixth as Clayton recorded an RBI groundout before Chapman scored on a wild pitch to make the final, 6-1.
The Camels were limited to just two hits courtesy of
Jonah Oster who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk. The squad drew a season high nine walks and tied its season high with four hit by pitches.
