GAINESVILLE, FLA. – Campbell opened play Friday in the Gators Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida at Mark Bostic Golf Club.
The Camels finished the day 18-over par, 11th in the 14-team field that includes six teams ranked among the nation's top 50.
Host and seventh-ranked Florida finished the day nine-under par and took a four shot lead over No. 40 Virginia on the par-70 Donald Ross design.

Fanni Gronlund logged four-over 74s on Friday.
Izabella Grimbrandt shot 76, while
Linn Svedlund turned in an 81.
Siuue Wu of Florida was the first-round individual leader at 5 under. Campbell will be paired with South Florida and South Alabama for Saturday's second round and start from the 10th tee at 9:40 a.m.
