Camels drop series opener to UNCW

BUIES CREEK – The Fighting Camels scored three runs early, but couldn't push another across in a 5-3 loss to UNCW Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.

The loss moves Campbell to 21-12, 14-2 in the CAA snaps a nine-game CAA winning streak. UNCW improves to 20-13, 9-4 in the CAA.

Joey Morton put the Camels on the board with an RBI single, and Jonah Oster followed with a safety squeeze to plate two in the first. Darnell Parker Jr. kept things going with a run-scoring knock up the middle in the second to put the Camels up 3-0 through two.

The bats went quiet from there, as Campbell managed only two more hits across the final seven frames. After UNCW starter Connor Marshburn was lifted after 4.1 innings, Trey Williford worked the next four innings scoreless, allowing just one hit and striking out nine.
