Camels collect season-high 17 hits to defeat UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Campbell baseball collected a season-high 17 hits en route to a 11-8 victory over UNCG on Tuesday night at UNCG Baseball Stadium. 

Campbell (24-12) struck first in the second scoring three runs to take an early lead. Lukas Schramm and Jackson Thompson led off the inning with back-to-back hits before Logan Sutton plated the first run on an RBI sacrifice bunt.  Carlos Lugo followed with a two-RBI single to make it 3-0 early. 

Lukas Schramm extended the Camels lead in the third with a sacrifice fly making it 4-0. 

UNCG (15-22) would answer in the fourth scoring three runs on three hits to cut the lead 4-3. 

The Camels would quickly respond with four runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to push the lead out to 8-3. Thompson and Lugo launched a pair of two-run homers to plate the runs, the homers mark the first and second of the season for the duo, respectively.

In the seventh, Logen Sutton blasted his first home run as a Camel to extend the lead 10-3. Sutton's two-run shot was the third two-run home run of the game for the Camels. 

Campbell tacked on another run in the eighth as Schramm tallied a base hit to score Murphy who led off the inning with a walk. 

The Spartans would score a pair in the seventh and eighth and looked to even things up in the ninth with a run and runners on base but a foul out to first ended the game. 

Five Camels collected multi-hit performances as Schramm led the offense going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Murphy and Lugo tallied a trio of hits as Lugo tallied a season-high four RBI. 

Owen Simmons (3-1) earned the win in 3.2 innings of work allowing two runs on three hits and picked up five strikeouts. Caleb White earned the start going 3.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits. 

Lugo and Jett Music each saw time on the mound combining for the final two innings allowing three runs on two hits.
