BUIES CREEK — Campbell baseball dropped its series opener against Elon, 10-6, on Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
Campbell drops to 24-13 overall and 16-3 in conference play while Elon improves to 15-22 and 7-12 in CAA action.
Joey Morton highlighted the night going 2-for-5 including five RBI. He plated the first run of the game on an RBI infield single before hitting a grand slam in the ninth.
Elon (15-22, 7-12 CAA) scored seven unanswered runs across the first four innings to take a 7-0 lead. The Phoenix would score a run in three of the final five innings for the final 10-6 score.
Camden Wimbish (1-2) suffered the loss in 2.0 innings of work allowing six runs on four hits.
Campbell (24-13, 16-3 CAA) looked to rally in the ninth with one out scoring five in the final frame but two quick outs after the Morton grand slam ended the threat.
Carlos Lugo tallied his team-high 15th multi-hit performance going 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.
The Camels were out-hit 10-8 and both squads left nine runners on base.
